The Journal Club
A little time just for yourself to notice, draw, write and reflect.
The Journal Club is a gentle creative practice for anyone who would like to capture more of the everyday moments that are so easy to forget. Using simple prompts, drawing, words, collage and observation, you’ll build a visual record of your life — one page at a time.
You don’t need to be able to draw, and you don’t need lots of time. Just a journal, something to make marks with, and a willingness to notice.
Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in art education, I create relaxed, supportive sessions that introduce techniques step by step while leaving plenty of room for individual ideas and personal responses.
You don’t have to be an artist to create. Just be curious and ready to try.
Why keep a journal?
We notice far more than we remember.
Something someone said.
A colour you loved.
The bird outside the window.
A thought you don’t want to lose.
The Journal Club gives you a reason to pause and capture some of those moments.
This isn’t about producing perfect pages or becoming a great artist. It’s about slowing down, paying attention and creating a record that is uniquely yours.
A reason to pause
Our attention is constantly being pulled in different directions: notifications, scrolling, lists, messages and the endless chatter of what needs doing next.
Taking a little time to draw, write or make can create a pause in all of that. It gives you permission to slow down, focus on one thing at a time and notice what is actually around you.
A few quiet minutes with a journal can feel transformational in a busy day.
It doesn’t need to be productive.
It doesn’t need to be perfect.
It just needs to be yours.

Who is The Journal Club for?
The Journal Club is for anyone who would like to be a little more creative, observant or reflective in everyday life.
You might enjoy it if you:
love journals or sketchbooks but struggle to use them regularly
would like to slow down and notice more
want a simple creative habit without pressure
think you “can’t draw” but would still like to make things
enjoy capturing memories, thoughts, places or small moments
prefer gentle guidance rather than a formal art class
You do not need any previous art experience: just a journal, something to draw or write with, and a little curiosity.
